What to Expect
Starting on Easter, April 5, 2026, we will gather every Sunday morning at 8:30am at First Christian Church on Edwards Road. The best way to get to know us is to check us out, but here are a few things to expect.
We are Bible-Based: Jesus is the main character of all the Scriptures. So in our commitment to read and preach the Bible, we strive always to make clear how the good news of Jesus Christ is central to the meaning of the passage. “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, Jesus interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself” (Acts 24:27).
We are Ancient, Yet Modern: We celebrate that God has been at work in his church for over 2000 years, so we stand on the shoulders of those that have come before us. At the same time, rather than hearkening back to some imaginary golden age, we seek to apply the ancient truths of the Scriptures faithfully and wisely to our lives today. In this way, God meets us where we are with what we really need - the grace and mercy of Jesus. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus…” (Hebrews 12:1-2).
We Value Singing: We love singing old hymns of the church, often to recent and more accessible tunes. We also sing some modern songs that are faithful to the truths we hold dear. Whether the song is old or new, we value depth of gospel truth and singability. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (Colossians 3:16).
We are Liturgical: In addition to joining our voices as a congregation in singing, we also join our voices in responsive readings. Our call to worship and some of our prayers are written out to include congregational participation. “And I have put my words in your mouth and covered you in the shadow of my hand, establishing the heavens and laying the foundations of the earth, and saying to Zion, ‘You are my people’” (Isaiah 51:16).
We are Sacramental: we celebrate baptisms regularly as well as the Lord’s Supper every Sunday. “For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26). We proclaim this good news every week.
In all that we do, if you wish simply to observe for a while, feel free.
